마음껏 상상을 펼쳤던 '미래의 예술공간 함께 상상하기' 워크숍 A Workshop Where Imagination Ran Free: "Imagining the Future Arts Space Together"

나는 종종 내가 하고자 하는 일을 세 가지 키워드로 설명한다. 첫째는 공간이다. 우리는 어디에서 시간을 보내는지에 따라 생각과 감정, 행동이 달라질 만큼 공간의 영향을 깊게 받으며 살아간다. 둘째는 커뮤니티, 곧 누구와 함께 있는가다. 곁에 있는 사람들이 바라보는 방향과 지닌 세계관은 나 자신의 시야와 선택에도 자연스럽게 스며든다.

마지막 키워드는 한 사람이다. 나는 한 사람이 곧 하나의 세계라고 믿고, 그 한 사람이 변화하면 세상 역시 변할 수 있다고 믿는다. 그 사람은 타인이기도 하고, 동시에 나 자신이기도 하다. 그래서 나는 늘 긍정적인 자극과 변화가 일어나는 자리에 끌린다.

'미래의 예술공간 함께 상상하기'라는 워크숍 제목에는 이 세 요소가 모두 담겨 있었다. 변화의 가능성을 원하는 사람들이 모여, 예술공간이라는 구체적인 장소를 함께 상상하는 자리라니. 이보다 더 나의 관심사와 맞닿은 장면은 드물었다. 참가자로서 그 시간을 경험했고, 또 돌아와 다시 생각할 기회를 얻었기에 이 글을 남긴다.

I often explain the kind of work I want to do through three keywords. The first is space. We are shaped profoundly by the environments we inhabit, so where we spend our time matters. The second is community, in other words, who we are with. The way the people around us see the world inevitably influences how we think and act in turn.

The third keyword is the individual. I believe one person is already a world, and that when one person changes, the world can change with them. That person is not only someone else, but also myself. It is probably for that reason that I keep moving toward situations where positive change and new energy are possible.

The workshop title, Imagining the Future Arts Space Together, held all three of those ideas at once. People seeking new forms of possibility gathering in one place to imagine a space for art felt almost uncannily aligned with what I care about most. I joined as a participant, and because I was also given the chance to reflect on the experience afterward, this text became a way of carrying that moment a little further.
