커뮤니티 바 삼만항 운영

삼만항(Sammanhang)은 서울시 영등포구 당산동 청과물시장 인근 골목에 위치한 커뮤니티 바로, '누구나 주인이 되는 술집'을 핵심 가치로 내건 로컬 커뮤니티 공간이다. 삼만항은 스웨덴어로 '연결'과 '관계'를 뜻한다. 마지막 글자 '항(港)'을 통해 과거 항구 도시였던 영등포의 지역성을 함께 담아냈다.

일본의 '커먼 바', '커먼 카페' 등 지역 주민 참여형 공간 사례에서 영감을 받아 기획됐으며, 핵심 목표는 지역 주민들이 함께 만들어 가고 생산과 소비가 지역 안에서 순환하는 커뮤니티 공간을 구현하는 것이다. 이를 위해 매일 다른 '마스터(Mastar)'가 하루 주인장으로서 메뉴 구성, 음악 선곡, 프로그램 기획 등을 자유롭게 운영하는 구조를 채택하고 있다.

마스터로는 성별, 나이, 국적, 장애 등과 무관하게 누구나 참여 가능하며, 2020년 4월 기준 월 11명의 마스터가 활동했고 185명 이상이 방문하는 등 지역 커뮤니티 거점으로 자리잡아 가고 있다.

운영 총괄 PM으로서 공간의 운영 구조를 설계하고, 파트너들과 함께 커뮤니티 방향성과 일상적 프로그램 운영의 흐름을 조율했다. 삼만항은 단순한 바를 넘어, 지역 주민이 관계를 맺고 역할을 바꾸어 가며 공간의 문화를 함께 만드는 실험적 플랫폼으로 기능했다.

Sammanhang is a community bar located in an alley near the Yeongdeungpo produce market in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Built around the idea that anyone can be the owner, it operates as a local community space where that vision is put into practice. The name comes from the Swedish word meaning "connection" and "relationship," while the final character "hang (港)," meaning harbor, reflects the local identity of Yeongdeungpo as a historic port city.

Inspired by community-run spaces in Japan such as the Common Bar and Common Cafe, Sammanhang was conceived with a clear goal: to create a space shaped by local residents, where production and consumption circulate within the neighborhood itself. To bring this to life, a different "Mastar" takes charge each day, freely deciding the menu, music, and programming as the day's host.

Anyone can become a Mastar, regardless of gender, age, nationality, or disability. As of April 2020, eleven Mastars were active in a single month, with over 185 visitors coming through the doors, a sign that Sammanhang was steadily growing into a true community hub.

As operations lead and PM, I helped structure how the space could be run on a daily basis while coordinating its community direction with partners. The project functioned not simply as a bar but as an experimental local platform where people could build relationships, shift roles, and co-create the culture of the place.
